Candy-striped describes cloth — and sometimes other surfaces — with thin coloured lines on a white background. The lines are often red, though they need not be; they look like the stripes on old-fashioned striped sweets, the kind people call candy canes. You see the pattern on shirts, , beach tents, and some uniforms. It is an ordinary describing word, not a technical one. Though actually, in American English a candy striper is a young hospital volunteer, named after those striped uniforms. That is a person, not the cloth.
