Calibration is the careful checking and adjusting of a tool or machine so that it measures correctly. Think of a kitchen scale: if it says a banana weighs 500 grams but it's really only 150 grams, the scale needs calibration - someone needs to fix its settings so the numbers it shows are true. Scientists, doctors, and engineers talk about calibration a lot, for anything from to big factory machines.
