    Caledonia is an old name for Scotland. Poets used it, and Scottish companies, ships, hotels, and songs still like it because it feels proud and old. The Romans first called the north of Britain Caledonia — roughly the land we now call Scotland. Nobody uses it as the normal name of the country today; that name is Scotland. When a bank or a club is called Caledonia, they want you to feel that old Scottish pride. Though actually, New Caledonia is not Scotland at all: it is an island in the Pacific that France named after this old name. Caledonia in a poem is Scotland; New Caledonia on a Pacific map is a different place.
