When a television is cable-ready, you can put the cable-TV wire straight into the back of the set. You do not need a special box just to get the channels: the set already has the parts inside that can read what comes through that wire. Shops used this as a selling point in the 1980s and 1990s, when cable TV was growing fast and many older sets could not take the wire on their own. Though actually, you hear the word much less now. Most new TVs take a small box, or an app, so the old picture of 'plug the cable in and you are done' is not how most homes work. People still say it about older sets, and they sometimes stretch it to mean any TV that 'works with cable,' even if a box is still sitting there.
cable-ready 指電視可以直接接收有線電視，不需要另外加盒子。電視裡已經有能讀取那條線訊號的零件，所以把有線電視線插進後面就能看。一九八〇、九〇年代有線電視快速成長，很多舊電視接不了線，因此商店常把這點當成賣點。
現在這個說法少很多，因為新電視大多是接小盒子或透過 App，所以「插上線就好」的情況已經不多見。人們仍會用在舊電視上，有時也用來指任何能接有線電視的電視，即使旁邊還是擺著一個盒子。
