A bursar is the person at a school, college, or university who looks after the money and a lot of the office work — fees, bills, rooms, sometimes staff pay. You will meet this word mainly in British and Commonwealth schools. An American campus is more likely to say treasurer, controller, or business manager. It is a formal job title, not a word you toss around in chat. The bursar is not a teacher and not the head of the school; they run the purse. Do not mix the person up with a bursary, which is the money given to a student.
