When a person acts like a clown on purpose — making funny faces, being too loud, playing the fool — that behaviour is buffoonery. It is not the person. The person is a buffoon; buffoonery is the silly show. You find it in plays, and in rooms where someone jokes to make people laugh, or to avoid being serious. It is a slightly old, slightly school-like word. You meet it in writing more than in chat. Though actually, it is not always kind. Sometimes the speaker is laughing with the person, and sometimes they are laughing at them, as if the person looks ridiculous.

組成From buffoon + -ery. Buffoon is the clownish person; -ery turns that into the behaviour, the way bakery comes from baker.
