A Brummie is someone from Birmingham in England. People also use it as an adjective: Brummie humour, a Brummie accent. The accent is well known in Britain; other British people can often hear it at once. The word is informal and ordinary — not rude by itself — though like many “person from X” words it can sound teasing in a cold voice. It comes from Brum (the short name for the city) plus -ie, “a person from there.” Brum itself comes from Brummagem, an old local form of Birmingham. It is not used for people from Birmingham, Alabama.
