1. 1

A brown-noser is the person who brown-noses: someone who keeps the boss, the teacher, or anyone in charge, hoping to be favoured. It is a name you call someone, and it is not a compliment. The word is informal and a little rude, with the same crude picture as brown-nose (a nose in a dirty brown place to please someone above you). You will hear it at school and at work when people are , not in careful writing. A milder English cousin is suck-up.
