Brotherly describes the kindness, loyalty, and care you would hope to get from a — looking out for someone, standing with them, being warm without it being romantic. You can use it for people who are not brothers at all. Brotherly love is a set phrase, and in some churches it means love between people in the group; it can sound a little old or formal. Though actually, brotherly advice can also feel like someone talking down to you, as if they were the older whether you asked or not. The word is simply with -ly, “in the manner of a .”
