A brindled animal is brown or with darker marks or bands in the coat — streaked rather than spotted. Think of a cow, a cat, or a dog whose colour looks a little like tiger stripes. This is the usual adjective; brindle is the related noun, and sometimes an adjective too. You will see it in farm writing, dog-breed talk, and older literature. It is a calm, descriptive word, not slang and not a breed name on its own.
