Brindle is the name of a coat pattern on animals, and also a word for an animal that has it. The fur or hide is brown or , with darker streaks or bands running through it — not neat spots, more like soft stripes that look almost painted on. You hear it a lot with dogs (a brindle boxer, a brindle greyhound) and also with cats and cattle. As a noun, brindle can mean the pattern itself or that kind of animal. As a describing word it sits very close to brindled; many speakers use both for the same look.
