Brazzaville is the capital city of the Republic of the Congo, in west-central Africa. English uses it only as a place name. People often mix it up with Kinshasa, which is the capital of a different, much bigger neighbour — the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The two cities sit across the Congo River from each other, almost face to face. The name is French: ville means city, and Brazza is from Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, an Italian-French explorer who founded the settlement in 1880.
布拉柴維爾。台灣新聞常把這個國家叫「剛果布」,對岸大國才是「剛果金」(首都金夏沙)。
組成French Brazza (the explorer’s name) + ville (city).
