In the Hindu faith, Brahma is one of the three great gods. People look to him as the one who makes the world — the god of creation. You will often hear him named with Vishnu, who keeps the world going, and Shiva, who brings an end so that things can begin again. Pictures and statues often show Brahma with four faces, looking four ways at once. Though actually, in daily temple life many Hindus give more time to other gods; Brahma is huge in the old stories, but he has far fewer temples of his own. Do not mix him up with Brahman, which in English can mean a person of high rank in the same faith, or — in philosophy — a deep idea of the holy. Those are neighbours of this word, not this god.
