Boldface is a way of printing or showing letters so they look thicker and darker than the normal ones. Writers use it to make a word stand out — a title, a warning, a key term. On a computer you often just say “put it in bold”; in print and careful publishing they still say boldface. It can also be a verb: to boldface a heading. It is not the same as (letters that lean to the side). And it is not the same as bold meaning brave, though actually that older “strong, striking” feeling of bold is how the printing sense got started. The second half, face, is the look of the type — the same idea as in typeface.
