1. 1

A boatyard is an area, often open and by the water, where boats are built, repaired, painted, and sometimes stored. You see hulls out of the water, tools, and people working on engines. It is a workshop plus an outdoor lot. Yard here means a work place — the same idea as in shipyard — not the small garden beside a house. A boatyard is usually for smaller craft; a shipyard is for big ships. The word is practical and a bit specialist: people who sail or live by a harbour use it. Tourists might just say the place where they fix boats. It is not a marina, which is more for parking pleasure boats than for building them.

    造船廠、修船場(多半是小船;很大的船比較常講造船廠、船塢)
