A BMX is a strong bicycle with a low frame, sitting close to the ground, usually with smaller wheels than a normal bike. People use it to jump, spin, and do tricks, often on a dirt track or in a park. The name is short for bicycle : is rough-ground motorcycle racing, and BMX took that idea onto bicycles. You can say a BMX for the bike, or BMX for the sport. Riders use it as everyday language; it is not a formal word. It is not a mountain bike and not a thin road-racing bike — it is built to take hits and leave the ground.
