A blow-fly is a fly, often shiny green or blue, that lays its eggs on dead animals, on meat left out, or sometimes on an open wound. The eggs become , which eat the rotting flesh. Farmers, cooks, and doctors all watch for them. You will also see the spelling blowfly, as one word. They are usually bigger and louder than the small flies on fruit. Though actually, blow here is not wind. Older English used blow for what a fly does when it lays eggs on meat — people said the meat was blown. That is how the fly got the name.
麗蠅是一種常見的蒼蠅，常是亮綠或亮藍色，會把卵產在死掉的動物、放著的肉上，有時也產在傷口上。卵孵化成的蛆會吃腐爛的肉，所以農夫、廚師和醫生都會留意它們。也可以寫成連在一起的一個字。
它通常比水果上那種小果蠅大，嗡嗡聲也更響。名字裡的「blow」跟風無關，舊英文用它來指蒼蠅在肉上產卵，這個名字就是從這裡來的。
