    Blondie is the main woman in the old American newspaper cartoon also called Blondie, started in 1930 by Chic Young. She is a bright blonde , Blondie Bumstead, married to , who is famous for huge sandwiches and falling asleep on the sofa. The strip is gentle family comedy, not action. The name is just blond plus the friendly ending -ie — “the blonde girl.” Though actually, do not mix her up with the later rock band Blondie (Debbie Harry), which borrowed the same blonde idea. In many countries the cartoon ran for decades in the daily paper.
