    A blockhead is a very stupid person. The picture is a head like a block of wood: thick, nothing getting in. It has been in English since the 1500s (block + head). Informal, a bit comic, and a little old-fashioned, but adults still use it as a mild insult, often teasing. It is ruder if you say it in anger at someone’s face. Not for formal writing. It names the person; it is not a word for a wooden toy head, even though that is the joke inside it.
