1. 1

A blackcurrant is a small, round berry, so dark it looks almost black, with a little blue shine. It grows in hanging bunches on a bush, not on a tree. The taste is strong and rather sour. In Britain people boil it into jam and a dark-purple drink for children; you will hear the word much more in British English than in American English, because the bush was uncommon in the US for a long time. It is not a grape. It is also not the tiny dry “currant” in fruitcake — those are little dried grapes from another plant. The spelling is currant, like the fruit, not current, like water or electricity.

    黑加侖、黑醋栗(台灣飲料和糖果上常寫「黑加侖」;不是葡萄乾那種 currant)
