A blackbird is a bird. In Britain and Europe, the name belongs to one garden bird with a beautiful song. The male looks all black and has a bright yellow ; the female is dark brown, so the name fits him better than her. People hear it in gardens, in poems, and in old songs. In North America, people use blackbird more loosely for several birds that are mostly black — and some of those males are not completely black at all (the red-winged one has red and yellow on the wing). So “a black bird” is a fair picture of the European male, but the word does not mean every black bird, and it does not mean a crow or a raven, which are bigger and a different kind of bird. It is an everyday nature word, not a formal one.
組成black + bird. From Middle English blakebird / blacbrid, an old name for this bird (also called the ouzel). It is simply the colour black plus bird.
