核心畫面

You can think of 'bitten' as the moment after the teeth have closed. The biting itself is finished; what is left is the fact that it happened and the mark it made. That is why the word cannot stand alone: it leans on have or be to say the action is done — she has bitten it, he was bitten. And when the mark is what you are looking at, the same word can go straight in front of a noun: a bitten apple, a bitten leg.

可以想成 bitten 是牙齒合上之後的那一刻。咬的動作已經結束,留下來的是「這件事發生過」,還有那個痕跡。所以它不更多收起可以想成 bitten 是牙齒合上之後的那一刻。咬的動作已經結束,留下來的是「這件事發生過」,還有那個痕跡。所以它不能自己站著,要靠 have 或 be 才撐得起句子:she has bitten it、he was bitten。而當你眼前看到的正是那個痕跡時,同一個字就可以直接擺到名詞前面:a bitten apple、a bitten leg。這兩種用法其實看的是同一個畫面,只是一個在講「發生了」,一個在講「看起來怎樣」。

From the word’s history

The Wiktionary entry supplied in this packet analyses the form simply: bit + -en. That -en is the ending on many English past participles (eat/eaten, write/written), which is exactly why 'bitten' needs a helper verb in front of it.

資料把這個字的組成寫得很直接:bit 加上 -en。-en 正是英文許多過去分詞的尾巴,像 eat→eaten、write→written。這也說明了為什麼 bitten 前面一定要有 have 或 be。
