Bitchiness is the quality itself — the habit, or the feeling in a room, of making sharp, unpleasant remarks about people. Informal. You can mean one mean comment (a moment of bitchiness) or a whole group that lives on gossip. The word names the behaviour, not an animal. Though actually, English has long stuck this word on girls and women more than on boys and men, which is messier than the dictionary line. The behaviour is real either way; using the word as if only women do it is the lazy part. Too casual, and a bit rude, for school writing.
