When you bisect something, you cut it — or draw a line through it — so the two pieces are the same size. Maths teachers love this word: you bisect an angle when you split it into two equal angles, and you bisect a line when you mark the exact middle. People sometimes use it more loosely just to mean “cut in two,” even when the two sides are not perfectly equal — though actually the careful meaning is equal parts. It feels like a school-and-science word. In everyday talk you would more often say “cut it in half.”
