Bigotry is the behaviour or the set of beliefs — not the person. It is that closed, unfair thinking about a group of people, and the things people say or do because of it. You can talk about racial bigotry, religious bigotry, and so on. The word is serious enough for the news and for school essays, but it is still a hard word; you are naming something ugly. Though actually, people sometimes use it for any view they hate, even when the other person is not judging a whole group. That stretches it. One person's bigotry; a person.
