To beseech someone is to ask them for something with a full heart — you really want them to say yes, and you are almost afraid they will not. It is an old, verb. You find it in stories, prayers, and formal speeches, not in a text to a friend. A person might beseech a judge for mercy, or beseech a parent to stay. In ordinary talk we would just say please, or beg. The past form is often besought; beseeched is also used. Dropped into everyday English it can sound like a play. The feeling is serious, not light.

組成From Middle English besechen, a prefixed form of Old English sēċan, “to seek.” By the pieces you can still see: be- + seech, an old shape of seek. English also has a rare twin, beseek, from the same dialect that gave us seek. Sister words in Dutch and German mean “to visit.”
