    The third person singular present tense of 'be', used with 'he', 'she', 'it', and singular subjects.

    「is」是 be 動詞的第三人稱單數現在式，用在 he、she、it 後面或任何單數主詞後面：He is tall. ／ She is happy. ／ It is cold. ／ My brother is here. 複數和 you 要用 are，I 要用 am。完整意義請參考 be 詞條（word_be_*）；本條只是 be 的特定形式。

You can think of 'is' as 'be' wearing its single-person form — the version used when the subject is 'he', 'she', 'it', or one thing. Like 'are', it works as a quiet equals-sign that says 'this is so' for exactly one subject.
