A bedhead is the upright board or frame at the end of the bed where you put your pillow — the part behind your head when you lie down. Many people also call this a ; bedhead is common in British English for that piece of furniture. It is simply bed plus head, the head end of the bed. Middle English already had bed-head and even “bed’s head.” Though actually, you will also hear bedhead for the messy hair you have when you first get up; that is a different, informal sense. This entry is the furniture. It is also not the old suffix -head you meet in rare words like godhead; the pieces here are the ordinary nouns bed and head.

組成bed + head. From Middle English bed-head, bedhede, also written as beddes hede (“bed’s head”). Superficially like words built with the suffix -head, but this one is just the two ordinary nouns.
