A bedfellow, in the meaning you will meet in modern writing, is not someone who shares your bed. It is a person, group, or idea that has ended up on the same side as another — often in a way that surprises you. We nearly always say it in the set phrase strange bedfellows: two sides you would not expect to work together. The picture comes from an older, literal sense, a fellow (companion) of your bed, and from a famous line people remember from Shakespeare about misery making strange bedfellows.
