If something is beastly, it is very unpleasant. Beastly weather, a beastly cold, a beastly thing to say: the speaker is not being scientific about animals. They are saying the thing is nasty, rough, or hard to bear. Built as beast + -ly, so the oldest picture is 'like a beast,' and that older sense is still there when we talk about beastly cruelty. But in British English especially, beastly became a everyday (now rather old-fashioned) complaint word, the way some people say awful. Older British speakers also use it as an adverb meaning 'very': beastly cold, beastly unfair. Younger speakers, and American speakers, use it much less. When they do, it can sound like a joke, or like someone copying a storybook villain. It is not a kind word, but it is not always a heavy one — sometimes it is just a huff about the rain.
組成From Middle English bestely, bestly: beast (a wild animal) + -ly (like). So: like a beast — and from that, very unpleasant.
