A bandsman is a musician who plays in a military band, a brass band, or a similar official band. The plural is bandsmen. Though actually, a guitarist in a rock group is not a bandsman — those players are just band members. The word has a slightly old, institutional feel: the army, a town brass band, a marching band on parade. In older writing a woman in the same job may still be called a bandsman; newer talk more often says band member or player.
