B2B means business-to-business: work, sales, or websites that go from one company to another company, not to ordinary . A factory that sells steel to a car maker is B2B. A shop that sells shoes to you is not; that is B2C, business-to-consumer. The 2 is a playful way to write “to,” because it sounds the same. The word became common in the 1990s, when companies started doing this work on the internet. It is office and news English, a little jargony. People use it as an adjective (a B2B company, B2B software) more than as a noun. Though actually, many firms do both, so the label is tidier than real life.
