1. 1n/ˈbiː saɪd/second side of a recordB面

The second side of a record or cassette single — the side you have to turn it over to play. The song the record company wants on the radio is on the A-side, and the B-side carries the other one.

Example

Turn the record over — the B-side has a slower song on it.

This sense is about a physical side. Old vinyl singles and cassettes had two playable faces, and only one of them was the face the company pushed. Calling something the B-side therefore says where it sat and, at the same time, how it was ranked: the other one, the one not aimed at the radio. Later formats have no side to turn over, but the word stayed in use for the songs that are not the main track.

  2. 2n/ˈbiː saɪd/extra song on a singleB

A song that is not the main song of a single — the one recorded on the B-side of a record, or, on a CD single, any of the other songs included with the main track.

Here the word has moved from the side to the music on it. You can say a B-side and mean one song you can name and play. Because the B-side was never the song being pushed, calling a track a B-side often carries the idea of something lesser known that fans find for themselves. On CD singles there is no side at all, and the sources still use B-side for the other songs on the disc.
