An avowal is the public statement itself — the thing you make when you . It is a noun, not a verb. If someone makes an avowal of love, they are saying, out in the open, that they love a person. If they make an avowal of faith, they are naming what they believe. The word is formal and a little literary; you will meet it in books more than in chat. People more often say “admission,” “declaration,” or just “he said so openly.” Though actually, an avowal is not quite a confession of a crime. It is closer to standing up and owning a feeling or a view, even when that is hard.
