Australasian means ‘of Australasia’ — of that region, or of its people. You can say Australasian plants, an Australasian meeting, Australasian English. As a noun, an Australasian is a person from that region. It is wider than Australian: a New Zealander is Australasian in this sense, but not Australian. It is mostly a geography, science, and news word. In everyday talk people usually just name the country.
