This word is about hearing — not about speakers or headphones, though people sometimes stretch it that way. If something is auditory, it has to do with the ears and the ability to hear. An auditory remembers things better by listening than by reading. Doctors talk about auditory nerves, the paths that carry sound from the ear to the brain. Teachers talk about auditory memory: holding words in your head after you hear them. It is a school-and-science word; in daily talk people just say “about hearing” or “for the ears.” There is also an old noun use, “the auditory,” meaning the people listening or the hall they sit in, but you will almost never meet that now.

From Latin audītōrius 'pertaining to hearing', from audiō 'to hear' + -tōrius.
借自拉丁文 audītōrius「聽的」，源於 audiō「聽」。
組成Borrowed from Latin audītōrius (“of a hearer or of hearing”), from audiō (“to hear”) + -tōrius (the ending that makes an adjective, the same kind as English -tory). So the pieces mean “of hearing.”
