1. 1

Asiatic means “from Asia” or “to do with Asia.” It is an older, more cousin of the everyday word Asian. You still meet it in science and plant names (Asiatic lily, Asiatic black bear) and in older writing. Though actually, when it is used about people, many speakers now hear it as cold or — especially in American English — so students should use Asian for people and for almost all modern writing. As a noun, “an Asiatic” for a person is widely taken as rude. The word came into English from Latin āsiāticus, which is Asia plus an ending, -atic.

    亞洲的(舊稱「亞細亞的」;指人時現在說 Asian/亞洲人,Asiatic 易顯過時或不敬)
