Arugula is a salad leaf with a sharp, peppery taste. In American English this is the usual name. In British English the same plant is called rocket — the leaf, not a space rocket. Some menus say rucola, closer to the Italian. You eat it raw in salads, on pizza, or with oil and lemon. It is a supermarket and restaurant word in the US, not a rare scientific name. Though actually it only became common on American tables from around the 1960s; older British speakers grew up saying rocket.

組成Probably from a Southern Italian dialect word, the same family as Standard Italian rucola. English also borrowed rucola. The salad-plant name rocket, French roquette, and Latin eruca are relatives — not the space rocket.
