An armourer is someone who makes or repairs weapons and armour. In older stories that is the person at the forge who fits a knight's metal suit and sharpens swords. In a modern army, an armourer is more often the specialist who keeps guns and other weapons clean, safe, and working — not usually someone who still hammers out a full suit of plate. Films and theatres also have an armourer: the person who looks after the guns and weapons on set so they are used safely. It is a job name, not the name of the soldier who wears the armour. The spelling armourer is British; American texts often write armorer.
