- 1
Belonging to the , or typical of it. An aristocratic family is a noble family. An aristocratic manner is the calm, careful, sometimes distant style people connect with that class — even when the person is not actually a noble. We talk about aristocratic tastes, an aristocratic face, an aristocratic wave of the hand. It can sound (fine, old, elegant) or a little cold (too proud, not of our world), depending on who is speaking. Though actually, it does not always mean “rich.” Some aristocratic families kept the name and the manners long after the money was gone.
