A playful, mostly British way to say noisy arguing or quarrelling. It is not a fight with fists. It is people going back and forth with words, often a bit loud, sometimes almost funny. You might hear it about politicians shouting in the law-making hall, or about two people in a shop over a bill. You can also use it as a verb: they were argy-bargying about the price. It feels informal and a little comic. You would not put it in a careful school essay. Though actually, it does not always mean real anger. Sometimes it is just messy noise, more back-and-forth than hate.

組成From Scots, a later form of argle-bargle, written since the 1800s. People probably swapped the ending -le for -y, an ending that can make a word feel smaller or lighter, but the meaning stayed the same.
