1. 1

If a song is anthemic, it has the feel of an anthem: big, proud, easy to sing together, with a tune that lifts a crowd. Music writers use this a lot for pop and rock — a chorus a whole stadium can shout is anthemic. It does not have to be a national anthem, and it is not an old school-essay word; it belongs to reviews and music talk. Though actually, people stretch it. A speech, a film scene, or even a chant at a match can be called anthemic if it has that same swelling, together feeling. You may also hear it used as a noun for that kind of song, but the usual, safer use is the adjective.
