An annotation is one of those short notes, or the whole set of them. If is the doing, annotation is the note you can point at. A book with many annotations in the margin looks marked up on purpose. In school, your annotations show how you read, not only that you finished the pages. Online, an annotation can also be a comment stuck to a video, a photo, or a pin on a map. Though actually, an annotation is extra writing added on top of a text that was already there. It is not the same as a footnote the author already printed, and it is not a full essay. Keep it short and tied to one spot.
組成From Latin annotātiō (“a remark”), from annotāre. In English it is annotate + the noun ending -ion.
