Anglo-Catholicism is not the name of a person. It is a way of being Christian inside the Church of England (and the wider family). People in this stream keep worship that looks and feels close to the Roman Catholic Church: a careful Mass, priests in , candles, saints, confession, and a strong sense that the church’s life runs back a very long way. The person is an Anglo-Catholic; this - word is the style and set of beliefs. They are still , though actually — not Roman Catholic. They do not take the Pope as their head, which is the clean line the tidy answer sometimes hides. You meet the word in church history and in talk of “high church” (more ceremony, more Catholic-looking) versus “low church” (simpler worship, closer to other Protestants). It is a formal, specialist word. Everyday speakers may just say high church.
