An Anglican is a Christian in the Church of England, or in a sister church of the same family. In the United States that family is often called Episcopal; in Taiwan it is 聖公會. The Church of England broke from the Pope in Rome in the 1500s, in Henry VIII's time, but it kept bishops and a lot of older church shape, so it can look quite Catholic in one parish and quite plain-Protestant in the next. The word can name the person (She is an Anglican) or describe the church (an Anglican priest). It is a calm, slightly formal church word. Though actually, it does not mean 'English person': plenty of English people are not Anglican, and Anglicans live in many countries.
