A medical condition: a tight, squeezing pain in the chest because the heart muscle is not getting enough blood — usually because the vessels around the heart have grown narrow. It often comes when you walk fast, climb stairs, or get upset, and eases when you rest. Doctors often say angina pectoris for this chest kind. The older Latin sense was a choking feeling in the throat; today, if a doctor says angina, they almost always mean the heart. It is a warning that the heart is in trouble, not 'just indigestion,' though people do mix the two up. It is also not the same as a heart attack, though the two live in the same neighbourhood of worry.
