Amorality is the name of that condition: having no moral standards, or a way of running things that never asks about right and wrong. Writers talk about the amorality of war, of markets, of certain machines — the system just does what it is set to do. It is an essay word, a little heavy; you will not hear it in the . Do not reach for it when you mean cruelty or sin; that is immorality. Though actually, people often use amorality as an attack, as if having no morals were itself a kind of guilt. Strictly, the word is trying to say “outside morals,” not “evil.” Same contrast as amoral: without the rules, not against them.
