Amoebic is not the name of the tiny creature. It is the describing word: of an amoeba, or caused by an amoeba. The phrase you will actually meet is amoebic dysentery (or amoebic infection) — a gut illness from a harmful amoeba, often after unsafe water or food. Doctors and biology books use it. You would not say “an amoebic” to mean the animal; that animal is an amoeba.
