When we call a woman Amazonian, we mean she is tall and strongly built, like a fighter. The picture in the word is the Amazons: in old Greek stories they were women warriors. People use it of a real woman who looks powerful, athletic, or imposing — not merely confident, and not merely loud. It is usually an adjective: an Amazonian woman, Amazonian strength. You will also hear it as a kind of noun, an Amazonian, for a woman of that build, though that is less common. The tone is literary or a little old-fashioned; in ordinary talk people more often just say she is tall and strong. Though actually, the same spelling is used for things of the Amazon rainforest (Amazonian jungle, Amazonian tribes), and that is a completely different meaning — same shape of word, different picture. 組成Amazon + -ian. Amazon is the name of the women warriors in the Greek stories; -ian makes a word meaning “of that kind” or “like that.”
