Alliteration is when several words close together begin with the same sound, on purpose, to make a shape in the ear. Poets use it. use it. Children’s books use it. “Peter Piper picked” is alliteration on the p sound. Teachers name it in literature class; you do not need the name to enjoy the poem — it is only the name for the trick. Though actually, it is the sound that matters, not always the letter on the page: cat and kitchen can alliterate on a k sound even though the letters look different. And it is not the same as rhyme. Rhyme repeats the end of a word; alliteration repeats the start.
組成From New Latin alliteratio, from Latin ad (“to, towards”) and littera (“a letter”). The idea is letters — or rather opening sounds — going together.
